On their way out or sticking around?
"John and Edward's odds for victory had sensationally shortened to [7.0] before Sunday night's results, yet their 'Ghostbuster' routine failed to captivate the viewing audience and a maiden placement in the bottom two suggests that their time as the toast of the nation is now up."
Terrible twins survive a big scare but punters are unconvinced they'll last the course
They may have being granted a stunning reprieve by Simon Cowell on Sunday night, however the bubble of optimism surrounding John and Edward appears to have burst, with Betfair customers now pricing them at an outside [21.0] to win X Factor. Only, Lloyd Daniels at [80.0] is longer in the betting.
The duo's odds for victory had sensationally shortened to [7.0] before Sunday night's results, yet their 'Ghostbuster' routine failed to captivate the viewing audience and a maiden placement in the bottom two suggests that their time as the toast of the nation is now up.
In an amazing sequence of events, favourite for the axe Lloyd survived and instead Lucie Jones became the fifth contestant to be eliminated, despite going into the weekend at a secure-looking [18.0] to be given the boot.
Cowell's decision to save the boys in favour of 17-year-old Jones came as a major shock, since the music mogul had been John and Edwards' most virulent critic throughout the show so far.
Olly Murs continues to be the punters' pick to win at odds of [3.0], while a new attitude, and haircut, appears to have done the trick for Danyl Johnson, who at [4.8] is now the second favourite to emerge triumphant.
Betfair spokesman Ari Last said: "Our customers' relationship with 'Jedward' has had its ups and downs, yet the feeling emanating from the Betfair market now seems to be that the twins' star, which rose so rapidly, is making its way back down to earth."
