Romney wins, McCain second and Giuliani finishes adrift in sixth place
Mitt Romney cruised to victory in the Michigan primary last night with what turned out to be a relatively comfortable victory over second place finisher John McCain. Romney became the Betfair favourite at 1837 GMT, over five hours before voting closed in the Automobile State.
Mike Huckabee finished third as expected but never received significant support on Betfair. His support peaked at 11 per cent ([9.0]) at 1204 GMT and steadily collapsed throughout the day.
Rudy Giuliani finished a very poor sixth in the contest and a big question mark now hangs over his campaign. Support in the three contests so far - Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan - has been weak, and a strong showing in Nevada, where he is currently fourth favourite in a relatively open race on 29% ([3.45]), now looks important in building momentum going into Florida on 29th January, where he leads on 46% ([2.16]).
