After a massive 22% swing in a former Labour strong-hold the government are in serious trouble.
Labour are seemingly friendless in every single poll you care to mention - and after last night's stunning loss in the Glasgow East by-election, they are running out of punters willing to back them to win the next general election, too.
They are now out to [4.5] on Betfair to win most seats at the next election - the biggest price they have ever been to do so.
And the Tories are in to [1.28] (punters willing to risk £7 to win £2) to take the national polls by storm at the next opportunity - the shortest price they have ever been to do so.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "If Labour can lose what was previously regarded as one of their safest seats with an amazing swing of 22.54 per cent of the vote, then prospects have clearly never been gloomier for the party.
"The Tories are now only [1.72] to have an overall majority at the next election, which is perhaps an even more damning verdict on this Gordon Brown administration."
To win most seats at next election - Betfair bet: [1.28] Conservatives, [4.50 ]Labour, [110.00] Lib Dems.
To gain an overall majority at next election - Betfair bet: [1.72] Conservatives, [3.50] No overall majority, [6.0] Labour, [130.00] Any Other Party.
