Royal drama scoops a massive 12 nominations as Betfair punters prepare to get involved with the Oscars markets...
The Betfair Oscars markets have just gone live following the announcement of the 2011 Academy Award Nominations.
The Oscars may be all about posh frocks, red carpets and tearful acceptance speaches for the stars, but for bettors there is the chance to find value in some of the exchange's most unpredictable, entertaining markets.
This year's awards, which take place in Hollywood on February 27, will be a right royal do, with the King's Speech, which picked up 12 nominations, set to dominate.
The film, which tells the story of King George VI's struggle to overcome his speech impediment, has been a critical and commercial smash and must be a shoo-in for Best Picture. Colin Firth, who plays the king, is a strong candidate for Best Leading Actor while supporting stars Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush could also triumph in the Supporting Actress and Actor categories.
Other films which figure prominently in the nominations include the Coen brothers' True Grit, which has earned 10 nominations, and the Social Network which has eight shots at success.
It's early days but keep an eye on Betting.Betfair for Oscar updates and in-depth analysis over the next month. And make sure you pile into what it is traditionally one of the liveliest, glitziest Betfair markets of the year.
