Feizal Rahman begins his latest jungle update with an adverb...
Mystifyingly, the elimination process so far has been one of total randomness with the likes of Kilroy, Timmy and Esther booted out unexpectedly and prematurely while those such as Brian and Simon have survived.
Eventually though, the vacillating Brian was voted out on Tuesday night after volunteering to spend the night in a cage full of rats in a bid to win the group a cooked breakfast. If there's ever an apt lesson for failed politician Brian to learn from that, it's that sometimes you just can't please all of the people, all of the time.
Having spent much of his 17 days trying to mediate between the warring factions in the camp, the irony of Brian's departure was that the main protagonists - David and Nicola - were finally appearing to get along following their agreement to wipe the slate clean. Though predictably in a cold war, both sides were still plotting behind the scenes and it was Nicola who made her move the first.
Cunningly, the brazen beauty told Joe that David had admitted to her that he had been playing up to the cameras all along and that they should both use the amiable Eastender to further their chances of winning. In doing so, Nicola lit the blue touch paper that has been protruding from Joe all along and, in the blink of an eye, Mickey Miller went all Phil Mitchell.
With Joe's mind now polluted by her Chinese whispers, Nicola thought she'd played her trump card and she'd surely now see the end of Van Day. But as her obsession with the slimy 80's pop star was bordering on Fatal Attraction levels, it was always a risky game and last night the gamble well and truly backfired as she was voted out of the jungle.
At least she had the graciousness to congratulate David on his superior tactics as she said her goodbyes, though her warning to the others about a snake in the grass may have understandably been misinterpreted deep in the Aussie bush.
Yet, Nicola's impact remains as Joe, who has always been his own man throughout, has allowed himself to be influenced by her scheming. Unless he can put the allegations about David behind him for the remaining few days, then Joe's chances of victory might be threatened. Out a dash to [1.5], he remains the heavy favourite but Martina, the only woman left in the camp, is down to [8.0] while incredulously, the mundane Simon is just behind at [9.4].
In comparison, David seems rather large at [12.0] and with George and Simon the front two in the 8th Elimination market - at [2.3] and [2.7] respectively - he can be expected to shorten should he win enough public support to stay another day. Though as we have experienced in nearly all eliminations so far, can the Great British public be trusted to back the right man?
