Lena with her trophy
"Sultry 19-year-old singer Lena won the contest for the Germans with her song Satellite, which won 246 points. She was backed at [34.0]."
England football fans will certainly be hoping the Eurovision Song Contest provides no omens for the World Cup...
After a night of high drama, low kitsch and a stage invasion, Germany are the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest champions after they overcame the challenge of market favourites Azerbaijan in Oslo.
But it was a disastrous night for the UK as Josh Dubovie finished last with a nervous rendition of the awful That Sounds Good To Me. If the title wasn't intended to be ironic it certainly should have been.
The UK were not expecting a successful night with some commentators calling Dubovie's Pete Waterman-penned effort, which was awawrded a paltry 10 points, our worst entrant of all time - and that's saying something.
Sultry 19-year-old singer Lena won the contest for the Germans with her song Satellite, which won 246 points. She was backed at [34.0].
The big favourites in the build-up to Saturday night's event were Azerbaijan, who traded at [2.24]. Market dark horses Denmark made a late dash for success and came into [1.7].
Turkey came second, followed by Romania in third. Ireland fared almost as poorly as the UK, finishing third from last.

The UK song was weak. It did not deserve to come last but was cheesy, repetitive and dated. It had a 'hook' but the 'hook wasn't particularly good and was not backed up with enough substance in the rest of the song.
It might have done better 15 or 20 years ago, but the Eurovision has moved on since then. Josh is a good singer, but deserved better material.

UK song was, as we are getting used to, really poor. Germany fully deserved the win, their song was far better, and Lena has a cute face, which grants them some votes. However, ESC is getting more and more like a geographic event, e.g. Portugal giving 12 to Spain...

The UK was rubbish and deseved what they got. Ireland however were BRILL and should have been at least on the left side if not in the top 5 and not insulted with 25 points. It comes down to the old Eurovision poltics. Countries which should have qualified in the first place like Russia and Serbia were 12 points from eachother! Go on You Tube and watch Russiaand you will see what i mean. Hard Luck Niamh. You did Éire prouD!

As usual the UK is always trailing back along the way, with poor performances one year after the other. The UK performance was rather dull and dead boring and lacked that little kind of spicing up!!!

Yeah i think UK were weak. I think Lena was good and that she deserved to win for germany... she sings like a lily allen style. So i thought she was good- very young though... 'Do i have to sing again?' Eh yeah! and satallite is a good song- so catchy! :L i also liked a few others. I am irish so i think we did do good:) not winners but hey we had a good performance!(:

I thought the Eurovision was staged well but think the BBC should be ashamed of themselves. Has everybody forgotten that the idea and title of this is "The Erovision "SONG CONTEST" not a platform for Pete Waterman and other 80's hasbeens to try and make a comeback. I felt sorry for Josh but he messed up the songs high notes and was obviously not a seasoned enough performer for this type of event.
As A pianist/songwriter and performer I remember watching the song for the UK entrant and thinking then this is a badly organised and put together effort by the BBC who are just trying to get a show like Britains got talent (which is bad enough!)much as i hate admit to admit it last years song by Lloyd Webber did so well because he is a master songwriter and we need a fantastic song to win because on top of the pressure of comming anywhere decent in the scoring the rest of Europe just don't like us!
So come on BBC go back to what the show was about, allow people to put in songs not based on how much money you have or fame, and then let the public choose a good song and not some rubbish written in 5 minutes!

Hard luck UK. The material that lad had to work with was desperate. Not his fault. I'm Irish and was disgusted with the voting system yet again this year. We had a great song from a lady who has a fantastic voice and should have been on the left not near bottom. It is gone to the stage where if we were to enter U2 into it they would come nowhere. The half jury making no impact obviously on the joke that is now Eurovision. Congrats to Germany but I do hope Ireland pull out of it soon as it a pure waste of time and energy until the whole format is revisited.

The UK need to learn a lesson from Germany. They didn't get some has-been to pen one song for all contestants to sing. They had a true competition with actual German people voting for a variety of actual German singers singing a variety of actual German songs. With its diverse population, Britain could win the contest if it would do the same thing: The British people could could judge the winning song sung by the winning act, rather than having a couple of hand-picked newbies all sing the same dumb pop song over and over again.
