Farewell, Rosemary?

Farewell, Rosemary?

"I think the loser of Whyment vs Conley has a real chance of departing."

There's little point backing the worst skater to leave Dancing On Ice this weekend as the trends tell us amusing underachievers usually hang on at this point - instead play longer odds on a slightly better no-hoper, says Simon Hopper, who dug out an [8.0] winner last week

It's 'The Duel' on Dancing On Ice this weekend and while it's probably a desperate attempt to boost declining ratings, the forthcoming twist is also an important factor when deciding your elimination bets for Sunday.

The 12 celebrities face off against each other in six head-to-head battles, and the judges will decide who skated better. The stronger skater is immune from elimination, while the weaker skater faces the public vote.

The pairs have already been decided and while some are boring (Matthew Wolfenden vs Jorgie Porter, for example, is irrelevant - neither of them would ever lose a skate-off at this stage), some of them could turn out to be important.

The two battles to focus on involve the four weakest skaters: Corey Feldman vs Chemmy Alcott and Andy Whyment vs Rosemary Conley.

Corey is easily the worst skater in the competition so Chemmy is very likely to gain immunity. But I don't think Mr Feldman is guaranteed to be leaving - the last three consecutive series have seen the lowest points scorer survive at this stage. So history tells us there's still room for an amusing underachiever to hang around.

Instead, I think the loser of Whyment vs Conley has a real chance of departing.

If you take their average results so far they are separated by just 1.5 points. Andy has the better scores, but Rosemary gets the nod on skating ability. It's too close to call but we know the loser will probably go head-to-head with Feldman for elimination, and at the prices I'd rather chance one of these two getting the axe.

Corey was awful last week - his score of 8 was the joint third lowest of all-time - yet he still managed to avoid the skate-off. He's already been in the bottom two, so his fans know they need to keep voting, while Andy and Rosemary have been safe despite carding consistently low scores - which history tells us is a very dangerous cocktail.

I'd split my stakes on Rosemary and Andy and hope that Corey's army of fans remember to pick up the phone. I'd be looking for around [5.5] on Rosemary and [26.0] on Andy once the market gains liquidity.

Recommended Bets
Rosemary Conley @ [5.5]
Andy Whyment @ [26.0]
