Feizal Rahman gives us his views on the remaining contestants in the Celebrity Big Brother House....
Following in the footsteps of fellow Scottish Socialist, George Galloway, is political agitator Tommy Sheridan. Noted for his defiance of the establishment, Tommy is a man well-known north of the border but will have left many down south - and inside the house itself - wondering just who the hell he is. Looking to revive his flagging career - much as this show did for Galloway - Tommy's incentive for lowering himself into a capitalistic celebrity cesspit is large and clear.
However, likely to be far more streetwise than Gorgeous George, the tikka-tinged revolutionary ([48.0] to win) will surely not put himself in potentially embarrassing situations such as squeezing into a leotard and pretending to be a cat. It's doubtful anyone in or out of the house will be interested in any political message the left-winger may wish to broadcast - his 'talent show' tirade about Iraq was nothing we haven't heard before - so here's hoping the more colourful parts of Tommy's character shine through to avoid him fading back into political and public obscurity.
Perhaps the most interesting addition to the house is the opinionated Mancunian, Terry Christian. The straight-talking radio presenter is not likely to suffer his fellow celebrities gladly and is sure to bring a grounded sense of normality to proceedings. In being the only housemate not to bag a bed upon entry, Terry ([7.8] to win) was rewarded for his 'civilian' behaviour by being crowned 'Head of House' with his very own private quarters. The other notable perk of being the least celebrity-like celebrity was being given the honour of choosing this week's eviction nominees from the daily tasks.
First to be nominated was the supposed viewer magnet of this year's series, Ulrika Jonsson. Reportedly in receipt of a higher fee than any of the others, the former Gladiators presenter can be expected to reveal all regarding her already highly-publicised private life. Yet to enlighten us furthermore with all the sordid details, the blonde Swede is currently available at [34.0] to win. Short of heart-rending revelations, Ulrika doesn't have any redeeming features to suggest she can win and so if she does survive the first eviction, her price will only get bigger.
The second nominee chosen by Terry was Nuts magazine stalwart, Lucy Pinder. The self-proclaimed Tory-girl's 'talent show' performance was dull and uninspiring and did little to break the general perception of models being really rather dense. The plummy accent and posh girl affectations may be designed to appeal to Conservative MPs with idle hands but it's unlikely to fool the Great British Public. The highest priced to win at [65.0], Lucy will be favourite to be first out the door and straight onto her next glossy magazine cover.
Elsewhere, we have gritty, foul-mouthed actress Tina Malone, evidently dragged straight off the set of Shameless. Judging from La Toya's facial reactions, every time the F-word spurts from Tina's sizable gob, a cute, little puppy dies a horrible death. While her heart-on-sleeve and gregarious nature is certain to endear her to some, ultimately she's too old and loud to win at [34.0] and Heaven help the housemates if the chain-smoking Scouser were to run out of fags.
Completing the line-up are some more ex-popstars - Michelle Heaton of Liberty X and Ben Adams of, nope sorry, it's gone again. With a reputation for bitchiness to match that of Mutya's, we should have been set for fireworks between the Geordie and the Londoner. Yet, thus far, the two have been as pleasant as can be and instead appear slightly bewildered in the presence of a handful of actual celebrities. Neither, however, can be confident of winning - which cannot be said of the most obscure housemate present, Ben.
Someone, somewhere must know what he is supposed to be famous for but such secrets are probably kept locked in a room along with Lord Lucan and Shergar. Regardless, being a handsome, young male gives any BB contestant a huge head start and disappointingly, it would be no surprise to see this non-entity emerge victorious. Currently at [10.5] to win, the inoffensive Ben is sure to trade significantly lower at some point in the next fortnight or so and unless one of the others can really be bothered to make an effort, he's the most probable winner of this year's renewal.
