Alex (left) is favourite but will she be celebrating or commiserating with champagne on Friday night?

"Alex is unquestionably stupid enough and innocent enough to win but she hasn't been as entertaining as Brian Belo, or even Helen from series two who came second. She also hasn't been up before the public vote yet - she's unproven amongst this audience."

Eliot Pollack bids farewell to FIVE's first - and possibly last - series of Big Brother, which could end with a big betting twist

Whilst some series of Big Brother limp exhaustedly over the line like Paula Radcliffe after a 10k, other series nonchalantly burst the tape like Usain Bolt. This one has been neither Bolt or Radcliffe - more Roger Black. Decent enough, but always up against tough competitors, with X Factor/Strictly cast in the Michael Johnson role.

In betting terms however, it has been far more than just decent. In fact, it has been sensational, with an upset almost every week. Just last week Louise was supposed to go, but Faye went instead. Anyone laying favourites in this series will have made a few shekels indeed.

Hence while Alex remains the hot favourite to win at [1.73], there may yet be another twist in Big Brother's tail, a twist that could see Aaron or Jay snatching victory.

Alex is unquestionably stupid enough and innocent enough to win but she hasn't been as entertaining as Brian Belo, or even Helen from series two who came second. She also hasn't been up before the public vote yet - she's unproven amongst this audience. Avid viewers will remember that a strange gypsy won the celebrity version, despite the true soothsayers insisting that Jedward or the lady Katona would bathe in BB glory.

If lightning were to strike twice, Jay would take the crown and he is undoubtedly the value punt at [7.0], or [3.9] to be runner-up. Like Paddy Doherty, he peddles a similar line in tatts and is also very difficult to understand when he speaks. Perhaps these are qualities that appeal to the new generation of Big Brother voters on FIVE? Perhaps future incarnations will simply become breeding grounds for famous tramps? Points worth considering, even at this time of unprecedented global financial turmoil.

If there is a member of the house who has any chance of post-BB fame, it would be Aaron. His romance was more eagerly followed than the Jay/Louise axis of sophisticated romance, and his bad moods have had a more telling effect on proceedings. Plus, he's survived eviction time after time, even under the new 'vote to save' laws. Aaron should not be ignored at [3.45], and it will be interesting to see what happens to his price on the night, were he to reach the final two, especially if Alex exits early.

Tom and Louise have no chance. Louise is too pretty, Tom too gay. And Big Brother viewers have had more than their fill of that over the past 12 years.
