Big Brother 9 Betting: Like watching your dad trying to bodypop

BigBrother08 RSS / Chicken Dinner / 14 July 2008 / Leave a comment

A reverse personality by-pass, new romantic cruelty and crashing bores leave the way open for unlikely Dale.

When one Big Brother romance goes stomping back into the real world, the cameras shift focus to the "puppet show" taking place in Luke's bed - by which, of course, we mean Luke's late night fumble with buxom Rebecca. Nobody saw that one coming, especially Rebecca [[85.0] to win on Betfair], a girl who lives solely in the present because foresight or hindsight would be so taxing she'd pass out.

She very nearly benefitted from the blossoming love affair, but once again shot herself in the foot by berating the tongue-kissing mess in a diary room rant. To more romantic viewers that will have seemed cruel and unnecessary. Hence, her assumed popularity has been totally misjudged by the housemates, who see her as a potential winner. She isn't and won't win.

The romance also has massive implications for Luke [6.6]. His appeal thus far has been his sharp humour, something completely unapparent as he lay in bed stroking Rebecca's face like a sinister young politician. The quicker she dumps him, the better. It might even garner him an important share of the sympathy votes which have probably been wasted on Lisa [46.0], following Mario's transformation from David Brent into the world's most unkind boyfriend. Lisa, for the record, has no chance of winning - too old, too female, and too dull. Her worth was as Wise to Mario's Morecambe, and now he's gone.

Also without a chance at this stage in proceedings, mainly for the crime of being magnificently dull are: Maysoon [85.0] - too straight-faced - Mohamed [100.00] - a man who even moans in staccato - and Stuart [44.0] - less paranoid this week, but far too serious to become a winner. One all-important winning trait is humour, and those three have none.

One man enjoying a surprising upsurge is Dale [12.5], two dimensional for the first few weeks as he sat transfixed by Jennifer's allure. Without her, he's awoken from his trance, and there are signs of a personality. As turnarounds go, it's impressive, and he may yet emulate Anthony from series six by romping to victory thanks to being good looking and surrounded by oddballs. For now, he makes for the most interesting bet.

Losing ground and slipping away from the prize are Rex [34.0] and Sara [60.0]. Both have strong voices in the house, but while Rex has become increasingly surly, opinionated and unkind, Sara's voice has morphed into a malfunctioning Moog keyboard. Her monotonous whine will soon become more grating than Belinda's sleep-roaring. Also counting against Sara is that she is an Australian (foreigners, bar Nadia, don't win), and her persistent flirting will have infuriated vast legions of female voters. After all, overtly sexual women frighten them and could steal their boyfriends. Bad news.

Belinda [250.00] has no chance - too insecure, too "keerrrazy", and her jazz singing is the reality television equivalent of watching your dad trying to bodypop. An abominable woman, she will join fellow desperately fame hungry middle-aged women Lea and Susie (both series seven) as former Big Brother contestants that no one can quite remember.

As for those still blazing the trail, Mikey [17.0] is safe for now, because the housemates are too afraid to nominate a blind man, even if he spends his days sneering and muttering to himself. And Kat [3.0] and Darnell [5.0] are fighting it out as the most easy-to-like housemates. Kat, in particular, is unbearably sweet. Viewers will think she's great.

(Rachel [22.0] doesn't get a mention as a punishment for being too boring)
