Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack
Runners and riders
After the catastrophe of last year's racist bullying episode, the famous are being kept firmly on the outside of this year's Celebrity Big Brother house. Instead the producers have gone more for a crowd of (largely) good looking and (sort of) talented kids, more in the mould of Hollyoaks or Skins, while the celebrities turn up to torment them. The adverts for shampoo and spot cream pitch the show firmly at the young girl demographic, giving the first clue as to how the three-week show may unfold...
Early front runners
A female votership is likely to favour male candidates, and huge Scottish politician John ([4.9] to win on Betfair) has benefited from starring in the opening show and already winning a slot in the final (although a large, initially sympathetic person from the provinces - "Wangers" - was favourite after Day 1 of the summer BB and came nowhere.)
Also fancied is Nathan [4.2], the epitome of T4 cool. He has already bagged a MOBO nomination, and according to his VT is mega-famous as an RnB singer (how have we managed not to hear of him? We love RnB!) The voting girls will be torn between him and Anthony ([8.8], Jermaine Jenas on steroids) as to which is hotter. Anthony may be a little too thick to go all the way - a lack of brains worked well for Brian in the summer BB, but his dimwitted nature was sweet, while Anthony seems too good looking and self-aware to be witless.
Of the girls, Jade ([14.0], over-achieving pageant dolly) is possibly the most likeable so far, as she seems less concerned with projecting a cool exterior.
Just off the pace
The roller skating brother/sister combo Emilia ([9.6]) and Victor ([18.50]) - the Same Difference of the big top - look good candidates to go on the all-important "journey". Having grown up in a circus, possibly with only elephants and bearded women as friends, they may find their new friends exotic. (Victor's longer price can probably be explained so early on by the fact that his sister is more attractive to a predominantly male bettorship.)
Joining them on the possible road to enlightenment is Liam ([17.50]), younger-looking and awkward, who seems to lack the booming arrogance of the others. He's a bit geeky, and voters may find that endearing.
Work to do
Amy ([18.50]) is worth keeping a close eye on. Her artistic leanings brought boos from the crowds, but she has something of the Shell (fourth, Big Brother 5) about her, and cooler voting teens might think her zany works of art - she rinsed a used condom! - pretty hip. Dancer Latoya ([20.0]), could prove too painfully 'with it' to ignore. Her intro video was hideous - she alluded to people handing her medals just for being amazing - but many a housemate has gone on to recover from a disastrous start (Chanelle, Big Brother 8).
Doomed
Worth disregarding straight away are Jeremy, Calista and Jay. Jay ([18.50]) can't win because his fashion background will not win him any friends, and the gay vote will go to someone a bit more uncomfortable about their sexuality. Calista ([16.0], an aggressive Myleene) is too loud, and has something of the frantic attention-seeker Shabnam (first out in the summer BB) about her. While Jeremy ([11.0]) is too posh and arrogant (like Tim, hateful, Big Brother 3, booed from the house, then fled the country.)
