Betfair market doesn't lie as 'Boks kick their way to glory over England

Despite England's heroics in bucking the market with victories over Australia and France to reach this final, Betfair punters were eventually proved right.

South Africa were clear favourites to win the Webb Ellis Trophy for the second time and they were never headed as Percy Montgomery kicked four penalties and Francois Steyn another to see them home 15-6.

Resuming the second-half 9-3 down, England bravely took the game to South Africa and were unlucky to be denied a try by the video referee after a great break from Matthew Tait saw Mark Cueto cross the whitewash. That proved to be the decisive moment and South Africa's defence held firm.

The pre-match predictions on Betfair that it would be a tight match proved to be correct. With no tries scored and only 21 points in the match, none of the try or handicap markets were threatened.

England supporters may not like it, but once again Betfair punters proved you probably don't need a crystal ball to glimpse the future.
