Plucky Scots defy the odds to record famous World Cup win...

Scotland drifted to [16.0] on Betfair on their way to their first ever Rugby League World Cup win.

Danny Brough converted Oliver Wilkes' try with just four minutes remaining to give the Scots an 18-16 victory over Fiji who were heavily-backed pre-match chances at [1.07].

Steve McCormack's outsiders took Fiji by surpise early on with Jon Steel scoring the opening try and Brough converting. They took their lead into the break but the Fijians came out fired-up in the second half and got themselves back into the contest.

With honours even at 12-12 going into the final ten minutes, the draw, matched at [200.00], traded at a [2.94] low before Fijian winger Semi Tadulala ran in his second try after 72 minutes.

It looked as though the favourites were destined to see out the victory but Scotland played with great pride and spirit, putting in a determined performance which means that, although they leave the tournament having failed to win by the unlikely 82 point margin which would have seen them into the semi-finals, they go home with their heads held high and a victory under their belts which bodes well for future campaigns.
