George Riley is a sports presenter for BBC Radio Five Live and rugby league commentator for the BBC.
He began his Five Live career in 2004 and can now be heard presenting the flagship sports show Five Live Sport on weekday evenings, as well as co-presenting Weekend Breakfast and providing sports cameos on the Chris Evans Show on Radio 2.
Brought up in Leeds, rugby league is George’s passion. A career highlight came in the 2007-8 season when he was invited to join in weekly tag rugby league sessions with the Leeds Rhinos. Coach Tony Smith labelled him “hands like a digital watch” and allowed him regular access to the session as he was so bad it kept the team’s morale up. George now commentates on the game for the BBC and is a rugby league columnist on the BBC Sport website.
Prior to Five Live, George presented for rival TalkSPORT, and spent four seasons providing World Snooker’s radio coverage. He is now the chairman of the Snooker Writers’ Association.
Bilingual, George has lived and worked in France, and played football for Leeds United as a schoolboy. Nowadays, though, he is rubbish.
