After the controversy of Day 1d, where hundreds of players missed out on playing in the Main Event due it selling out, most were happy to get back to playing and discussing poker. 1,476 players spilled into the Rio and more than 12 hours later only 648 still had chips left.

Nine members of Team Betfair began the day with realistic hopes of making it through to Day 3 but by the time play had finished, only three still have the chance of winning a life-changing sum of money and the most sought after piece of poker jewellery.

Not long into proceedings, Sorel Mizzi was involved in a hand where the floor had to be called. After seeing his 1,050 raise from the hijack called by the big blind, Mizzi made a continuation bet of 1,625 when checked to on a 7c6d9h flop.

The big blind then check-raised him to the minimum allowed, which was 3,250 but before Mizzi could act the deal put the queen of clubs on the turn! After much discussion, Mizzi made the call but then immediately folded when the big blind lead out for 4,000 when the 5h appeared. Maybe he'll write about the hand in his blog?

Meanwhile other Team Betfair players were getting in on the action and after losing a few chips, TenderTrap added to his stack nicely with top pair, top kicker in a three-way pot but he came undone later in the day when he was all-in with King-ten suited on a QJX flop, which improved to a flush draw on the turn but the river bricked out and he headed for the rail.

Another player who ran out of luck was hangman who first got very little action in a three-way pot with a set of two's on a 2AK board before getting it all-in preflop with tens versus his opponents AdKd that hit a flush on the river. PunkFloyd and EL PEPE followed their team-mates to the rail, and probably the bar, soon after but tcmoriera, Hedger43 and Sorel Mizzi were busy accumulating chips.

When Day 2a drew to a close, two surviving members of Team Betfair were owners of substantial chip stacks. Sorel Mizzi has the most of Team Betfair with 166,400 whilst tcmoriera will return on July 10 for Day 3 with 141,300 and 145,500 respectively.
