With only 238 player entering, the field for event 40 was an elite one. At the end of day two 30 players remain with players such as Chad Brown, Freddy Deed and Shawn Sheikhan eliminated. Sheikhan was involved in a couple of interesting hands.

Sheikhan and Brown were involved in a hand with Phil Hellmuth, where on the second round of draws Phil stood pat (drawing none), Sheikhan drew one and Brown drew two. Phil bet, Sheikhan quickly raised and was called by both Hellmuth and Brown. Sheikhan and Brown both drew one more card with Phil again staying pat and they all checked it down. Phil showed a 10-6-4-3-2 for a 10-6 low, but was beat by Sheikhan's 10-5 low. Brown mucked and Sheikhan raked in the pot and could not resist the needle to Hellmuth, proclaiming 'I love me some Philly...'

In a 3-bet, 3-way pot Sheikhan drew two cards while his opponents both drew one. Sheikhan and the next player check-called the third players bet, who stood pat with the other two drawing a card each. Sheikhan again check called a bet with one of the players folding. On the final betting round, Sheikhan this time stood pat and checked and in a controversial move appeared to flash his hand to his opponent who asked 'Did you just show me a number 2?'. The player bet out and was instantly raised by Sheikhan. He called and Sheikhan mucked his hand, saying 'I thought you didn't see it'. 'Stevie Wonder would've seen that' the player replied and soon busted Sheikhan from the tournament.
