At the end of day two 67 player remain from the starting field of 148. While some big names are at the top of the chip counts, many well known players were eliminated today. Here we look at who has gone and how they exited.
Big game regulars Eli Elezra and David Grey were both eliminated early after being short stacked. Grey was knocked out by Andy Bloch during a round of Stud. He was ahead before the river with a pair of Queens against Bloch's straight and flush draws but Bloch made broadway on the river to knock out Grey. Isebelle Mercier eliminated Elezra when her flush bested his two pair with neither making a low.
Recent bracelet winner David Benyamine was sent to the rail by Doyle Brunson during a round of Stud/8. Benyamine got it all in on 6th street with Brunson calling. Beyamine had the best hand with a pair of sixes and a low draw, but a river 7 for Doyle and no help for David meant Doyle scooped the while pot with just a pair of sevens .The final hands were:
Benyamine: 7s 6s 5d Kc (6d 2d x)
Brunson: 2c 4s 3s Ah (7c 7d 6h)
Gus Hansen had high hopes coming into this event after winning more than $1m playing HORSE online recently, but could not transfer his success to this tournament. Playing Omaha/8 Gus limped and Allen Cunningham limped also. Thor Hansen (no relation) raised and both players called. With a flop of Ks Kh 4s Gus ended up all in against Thor with Cunningham folding.
Thor: Ah Ac Kc Qc
Gus: As 7h 3s 2d
Gus held the nut flush draw and backdoor nut low draw against Thor's trip Kings. Gus failed to improve his hand and Thor scooped the whole pot, eliminating Gus.
TJ Cloutier faced Lyle Berman during a round of Holdem. On a flop of K J 6, Cloutier bet and Berman raised. Cloutier called and the turn was a Queen, with Cloutier betting and Berman again raising. This time Cloutier raised and Berman capped the betting. The river was another Jack. Cloutier bet and Berman raised and after a brief pause Cloutier called. Berman tabled QQ for Queens full of Jacks while Cloutier held KJ for Jacks full of Kings. 'Mother F*****, that was a $50,000 hand!' Cloutier said, acknowledging the fact that he was severely crippled. He was eliminated shortly after.
Other big names to hit the rails were: Andrew Black, Tony G, Chris Ferguson, Howard Lederer, Mike Sexton, Freddy Deeb, Jen Harman, John Juanda, Greg Raymer, Patrik Antonius and Mike Matusow.
