Jani Vilmunen has taken down the third event of the WSOPE, the £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament. Howard Lederer, making his second money finish of the series, pushed the Finnish professional all the way but he had to settle for the runner up position.
As time ticked towards midnight in London it looked like we could be in for a long heads-up battle between Vilmunen and Lederer. The Finn had a healthy chip lead but there appeared to be plenty of play left in the tournament to allow Lederer to overturn his advantage. That wasn't to be the case though and we quickly found our next bracelet winner.
The deciding hand saw Jani make a 120,000 raise before the flop. Lederer re-raised to 360,000 and the Finn called. 6d,7d,8h fell on the flop. Lederer wasted no time by betting 600,000 only for his opponent to wave forward with his hands in a gesture that signified his all-in move. Lederer called and showed Ah,Qh,4c,5c for a straight. Vilmunen struggled to hide his delight when he tabled the nuts with Qs,9h,7h,Td. The turn and river couldn't improve either hand and Jani Vilmunen was declared the WSOPE £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha champion.
Earlier in the final we lost two of the more fancied players. Robert Williamson III fell in 9th, swiftly followed by Jeff Kimber in 8th. The Hendon Mob's Ross Boatman kept the British flag waving until his elimination in 4th place.
