Fur King Hell As Pagey44 Wins $1 Million Freeroll Week 6

Sunday night (May 24 2009) saw 108 players sit down for the Weekly Million Dollar Freeroll on Betfair Poker with the prize an entry into the 27 player Live Regional Qualifier in August and a shot at winning a cool one million dollars.

Well done to pagey44 who joins previous weekly qualifiers from the UK clevert1, strikeone, filanderer, Diavolo00, RIVEREDZZZ in the live regional final later this year.

Victory on the night went to pagey44 who overcame Fur King after a lengthy heads-up battle, with ImOnFire finishing in third place.

Pagey44's victory was all the more meritorious considering he was placed 17th of 18th when the tournament reached the final two tables as well as entering the final table as the short stack.

The key hand of the evening came when the final table was just three handed and the players were neck and neck for chips. Chip leader ImOnFire had 94k, Fur King was sitting with 92k with pagey44 the shortest stack on 83k.

With blinds at 1250/2500 and a 250 ante, pagey44 made a button raise of 8,400 with Fur King folding and ImOnFire defending his big blind.

The players saw a flop of 87A rainbow. ImOnFire gave it a little thought before injecting a near pot size bet of 18k into the middle. Pagey44 didn't think too long before shoving the rest of his stack giving ImOnFire something to think about.

The chips went in leaving ImOnFire with just 10k behind. Pagey44 flipped AJo for top pair while ImOnFire revealed Ks8s. The turn and river of 9d and 6d improved nobody leaving pagey44 chip leader for the first time on 168k.

ImOnFire hung around valiantly for a while with some well timed aggressive play before finding his AK was no match for Fur King's two pair.

Pagey44 entered the heads up battle with a marginal 20k lead but it was an advantage he was never going to relinquish with that gap the shortest between the pair until the death.

Fur King's hell was complete when pagey44 seemed not to believe his opponents story when he faced an all-in on a 9cAdAsKc6d board, calling the bet and taking down the pot with a pair of Kings.
