Play Your Way to an iPod Touch at Betfair Poker

Poker Web Watch RSS / Dave Allan / 26 March 2009 / Leave a comment

"We're giving away free iPod Touches," I was told. "To all new signs up to Betfair Poker who reach 10,000 Betfair points. Go promote!"

I just had the two problems. What's an iPod Touch? And what's a Betfair Point?

I jumped into action. Wikpedia. Easy.

iPod Touch

"The iPod Touch is a portable media player and Wi-Fi mobile platform designed and marketed by Apple Inc."

In my technophobe language that's an mp3 player that you don't have to plug in to your computer to download music. It's easy this research stuff.

Betfair Points

Damed. No Wiki entries for Betfair Points. Have to do some real work.

Five hours later.

Basically people earn points for playing poker. The more you play the more you earn. It's all based on the value of any tournament you enter or any cash game pot you are involved in.

On Betfair Poker you will earn one Betfair Point for £0.05 (approx $0.10) of rake paid. Points are earned for both cash games and tournaments. So, for example, if you were to buy into a $25 + $2.50 SNG then you would earn approximately 25 Betfair Points.

But how is rake apportioned to a particular player in a cash game?

In a pot, rake is apportioned to any player who has contributed to it. If four players contribute, then the rake apportioned to each player will be a quarter of the total rake taken in that pot. The amount a player contributes is irrelevant, therefore if a player is on the small blind but folds before the flop is dealt, he will still be have deemed to have contributed. Remember, no rake is taken if the flop is not dealt.

I think I understand it now. Bit like Play Your Cards Right. "What do points make?" "Prizes!!"

Now, I sometimes have a problem with these promotions. I generally start out with good intentions but sometimes things happen and I'm left with a half completed promotion and nothing to show for it.

I did some delving around.

Betfair's usual sign up bonus is still on offer during this period (60 days) so even if I fell short of the 10,000 points I'd still be entitled to something. Not bad.

I delved deeper.

Any player earning over 1000 points but short of 10,000 gets entered into a freeroll where the top 50 receive an iPod Touch.

I think all the info is there and even I understand it...and it runs between March 25th and April 12.

If you are still unclear you can:

1) Check out the Betfair Poker iPod Touch microsite.

2) Read the Terms and Conditions

3) Peruse the iPod Touch FAQs

4) Email someone who will have all the answers pokerinfo@betfair.com

5) Simply Download Betfair Poker and start earning points.
