Poker players are well known for their extravagant spending habits, be it spending ridiculous amounts of money on meals in Vegas, buying dozens of bottle of Cristal Champagne on a night out or driving around in the latest supercar. However, one player has gone one step further and actually added a slide inside their new apartment!
Phil Galfond is a high-stakes cash specialist from Maryland who now resides in New York . He can be found most days playing No-limit Hold'em, Pot-limit Omaha and Mixed cash game with blinds ranging from $200/$400 all the way up to $500/$1,000.
Galfond's online moniker 'OMGClayAiken' was created after Clay Aiken made the final of American Idol, the US version of Pop Idol. Under this handle, Galfond has won millions of dollars battling it out with poker's elite but he can also hold his own in live tournaments, having a WSOP bracelet to his name after winning the 2008 $5,000 Pot-limit Omaha (with rebuys) event for $817,781.
Being just 24-years old and having a substantial sum of money in his bank accounts, Galfond must have become bored and needed something to splash his cash on. That is the only way I can explain having a stainless steel slide installed into his brand new New York apartment, or condo as those crazy Americans like to call them.
Looking at the pictures on his blog, hosted on his training site Bluefire Poker, it appears the slide joins the upper level of his condo to the living room, right in front of his sofa! I must admit I do not really see the point of it but I guess a multi-millionaire 24-year old does not need a reason to do something crazy to his new abode!
