Betfair Pro Sorel Mizzi has an excellent chance of landing his second major live tournament in as many months after reaching the final table of the $1,000 no-limit rebuy event at the Aussie Millions.
The Canadian lies second in chips behind the young Australian Jonathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis and though guaranteed AU$11,077 but will be looking to put recent good live form to use to get his hands on the AU$160,326 first prize.
Mizzi steadily accumulated chips all day but suffered a major set back close to the bubble when losing a major hand shortly after midnight which saw his 46,000 stack cut in half.
He clawed his way back up to 50,000 chips shortly after 2:00am but it was the last hand of the night that was to rocket him up into contention.
Calling Rayan Nathan's button raise of 6,000 from the big blind with Ac7s, the players saw a flop of 6d7h7d. Nathan called Mizzi's 8,200 lead before the Qh landed on the turn. The Betfair Pro made a strong bet of 13,500 which his opponent eventually called.
The river 8h saw Sorel Mizzi announced an all-in of 36,000 and after a long think Nathan called.
Below is the draw and chip stacks for the final table
Seat 1: Sorel Mizzi (131,200)
Seat 2: Clark Hamagami (95,700)
Seat 3: Tony Dunst (120,900)
Seat 4: Mark Kassis (124,200)
Seat 5: Rayan Nathan (38,700)
Seat 6: Larry Karambis (79,900)
Seat 7: Jonathan Karamalikis (153,000)
Seat 8: Richard Ashby (83,400)
Seat 9: Peter Rho (49.400)
This shot at another live event success comes after Mizzi won Event #5 ($3,000 No Limit Hold'em) of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio in Las Vegas in December last year.
**Update** Sorel finished in fifth place for AU$37,895.
