Doyle Brunson, probably the most iconic figure in poker, has finally penned a book about his life and it is due for release two days after the end of the WSOP Main Event Final Table on November 11.
Brunson has already written a number of books, some of which are considered bibles by the poker community. The first of these books was "Super System" back in 1979, a book which was the first of its kind as it gave a true insight into how to play loose-aggressive poker and how professionals really thought at the tables.
Over 605 pages, "Super System" discussed strategy for Seven Card Stud, Lowball, Draw Poker and Hold'em through the eyes of Doyle and some of the world's best players such as Chip Reese, Bobby Baldwin and Mike Caro. The follow-up book, "Super System 2" was released in 2004 and included previously untouched poker variants like Omaha and a host of contributions from modern day players.
His latest book was released by Cardoza Publishing in 2007 and was entitled, "According to Doyle." According to the publishers website anyone who buys the book will, "Learn what makes a great player tick, how he approaches the game, and receive candid, powerful advice from the legend himself."
Doyle's autobiography has been in the pipeline for a while but it is now confirmed that "The Godfather of Poker" will be released on November 11. Spread over 372 pages are unseen photographs and tales about his amazing life including suffering a freak accident that prevented a career with the Minneapolis Lakers (now LA Lakers), recovering from an aggressive form of cancer his doctor was certain was terminal, what poker was really like in smoke-filled backrooms in the 60s and 70s and being robbed just one day after winning his eighth WSOP bracelet in 1998.
UK and Europe based fans may have to import the book as initial reports suggest it will only be available to US and Canadian customers on the release dates. That will not stop me from ordering a copy of what should be an amazing story about one of poker's true greats.
