Turkey's Brass Neck On Poker

RSS / Editor / 19 December 2007 / Leave a comment

INSIDE the pages of the Turkish daily Zaman we note that Turkey's residents caught playing poker on the internet will be punished.

Already the authorities are said to have compiled a list of 3,500 online gambling persons. They will be fined 100 Turkey New Lira (£41.75). No big deal. Only, the fine is for each game they played online. The total number of games played is said to exceed 46,000.

The Turks are not against gambling and the country's IDDAA gaming firm is partially owned by the state. It's just that they don't like shadowy foreigners seeking to profit from the locals.

Better that the locals play the Government's game, and so allow the Government keep all and any profits.
