Betfair, rakeback and the GUKPT

News RSS / John Tabatabai / 02 December 2008 / 2 Comments

What a week! I'd been looking forward for a long while to the final of the GUKPT in my hometown London but it proved every bit as disappointing as last year.

In the event, I had a pretty good starting table with position on Barny Boatman and Surinder Sunar. I was playing ok but for some odd reason decided to give some chips away towards the end of one of the breaks.

Long story short, I called a raise with 8-10dd and the flop came 9d-6d-10s and the way the action took place ended up with there being 10k in the middle, myself having a 20k stack with a bunch of different draws I went for the pick up and raised all in but unfortunately ran into 78hh and I couldn't hit. Only online!

Anyway, the most interesting part of the week for me was my challenge. A few days ago I started taking shots at the 2-5NL game, the first day I lost 4 buyins from my 14k bankroll so dropped back down to 1-2, recovered the losses and moved back up the next day. I then proceeded to go on a nice rush and pick up 8 buyins.

Unfortunately the shit hit the fan and I ended the day down 4 buyins. Arrggghhh. So incredibly frustrating as I am running out of time for this challenge. Next day, 1-2nl, run good, mix it up with some 2-5nl and we are off.

I final tabled the 55k on Sunday for the second week running but failed to make a top 3 finish, this time finishing 6th, better than 9th last week though. It is so difficult to stay calm and not be frustrated when a couple of coin flips in the tournament would radically change my challenge and put me in a great position to complete, possibly even ahead of schedule.

Anyway, it seems that I must struggle otherwise this wouldn't be as rewarding as it will. This doesn't even make much sense, I was up till 8am yesterday playing 2-5nl on Betfair Poker and playing bunch of tournaments on other sites and I can honestly say that it was one of the most frustrating days ever.

Rant over. Stats time.
Current bankroll as of today stands at $21,527 excluding rakeback. With rakeback I should be near the $30,000 mark and with only a month to go this bet seems very achievable.

I'll write a more detailed report soon, incredibly hectic at the moment with tables flying around everywhere not helping!

Nearly forgot, you should all try and come to the next charity event Betfair hosts. The last one in the empire was a £100 rebuy, free bar and was great fun. Raised some good money for a good cause too which is always nice. Who thought playing poker would help people? Got to love it. J

Good luck all

kunku

    MIRAGE HAND

    Gutshot straight flush...............easy fold.

So they say but it's really difficult to let it go isn't it?? We can only think of raising the pot because we can already see the SF.

That's why I call it the "mirage hand".

    GL on your bet,
