Sam Torrance is taking poker seriously... and writing about it. Get exclusive insights into the poker-mind of a Ryder Cup legend.

Ok, so normally you think you'd find me out on a golf course but you can't be out there all the time - in fact, just like every golfer, you wish some days you weren't there at all! I've started this blog because I want to take poker more seriously and become a consistently profitable player.

Betfair have taken me under their wing and I will keep everyone up to date on my progress. I am actually playing a bit of $2.5/$5 as I write.

I've been playing poker for over 40 years. I first started with 3-card brag in the Clubhouse in North Berwick at the 1966 Scottish Boys' Match Play. It was for pennies and I always lost.

Though I've actually never been consistently profitable, I certainly did ok playing poker on the tour. Quite a few of us used to get out the cards in the evening. Russell Clayton, Mark Farry, John Hoxworth, Arnold O'Connor and a load of others I can't remember used to sit down and have a game of 7 card stud - I like to think I was one of the better players! These days I'm not sure whether the boys on the pro tours would even bother with a game of poker.

I started playing online about 5 or 6 years ago. That's how I first came across no limit Texas Hold'em. That's the only thing I play now. I don't want to be a jack of all trades, I want to be good at one particular game. I used to lose quite a lot but I have had some pretty decent results recently. I've come 2nd in the Betfair 16k twice and have won a $500 entry 16 man tournament.

I play $1/2 or $2.5/$5 no limit Hold'em cash games or tournaments so watch out for me. I'm playing under the name "torrance s" - catchy, eh.

If you're feeling friendly, feel free to say 'hello'. Even add me to your "key player" - you can try and take my money!!

I'll try and post on my blog every week so good luck and I will let you know how I am doing.
