I have been in Dubai for some company days and dinners. The place is fantastic.

I have been there a number of times with the family on holiday and stayed at a fabulous hotel with about a mile of beach and small canals where you can take little boats to restaurants. When my son comes we play golf in the mornings then spend the rest of the day at the beach. What a life eh? The courses we tend to play are the Montgomerie or the Emirates. I haven't played the new Nick Faldo course out there yet but I hear they had to make it easier after the members complained. Interesting!

The Montgomerie is a good course for all levels actually. If you play of the back tees it can play tough enough but it's also relatively straightforward if you play forward which suits the bigger handicaps. The Emirates is just fabulous. I was actually there for the opening in 1987 - back then Dubai was all desert and it was the only grass course in the country.

You can't play poker in Dubai but I have been playing quite a bit back at home. Sometimes winning sometimes losing. I really need to learn more patience. But I am treating it like a challenge and I am a bloody stubborn Scotsman - I WILL beat the $2.5/$5 games.

I don't like going down to $1/$2 because the standard is not as good and I know that I can win at $2.5/$5 but I just need to maintain my discipline.

Am playing in the $16k tonight if anyone fancies it...
