Sleep deprivation

Could somebody please leave a comment and let me know what this sleep is that normal, childless people talk about? Jesus I am tired right now and it's only been a week since Baby Pud entered the world!

I am essentially getting by on around 3-4 hours sleep a day at the moment, much like Maggy Thatcher does although I reckon she's in better shape than I am right now! LOL!

Thankfully (**touches wood**), Baby Pud is very well behaved, only cries when he's hungry, and sleeps for the majority of the day but Mrs P and my sleep patterns are well and truly destroyed at the moment. We have been doing sort of shift work when it comes to the night time feeds etc and it is working but its also quite tiring.

Basically, Mrs P goes to bed and then when he wakes at around midnight to 1am she will go downstairs with him, feed him and change his nappy. We'd do it upstairs but he screams his rocks off when his nappy comes off so he'd wake Step Pud up and can you imagine having a one week old and two year old battling it out for attention at the witching hour?

Mrs P then sleeps downstairs until about 0330, at which point I get up and let her get some proper sleep in bed whilst I potter around the house making up bottles, washing up or attempting to play poker whilst the house sleeps! So I am essentially getting by on around 3-4 hours sleep a day at the moment, much like Maggy Thatcher does although I reckon she's in better shape than I am right now! LOL!

We are doing pretty well with the lack of sleep, better than I thought we would and Step Pud isn't as jealous as we feared so all is good right now. I think once Mrs P gets up this morning though, I'll head back off to bed for a couple of hours!

I have actually managed to play some poker but I really wish I hadn't in all honesty. Playing tired, coupled with a bit of a downswing has had negative results and I've pissed away 1/3 of my bankroll. Luckily, 2/3 of that 1/3 was made up of poker profit from early in the month so I've not actually lost that much of my roll but it feels like it if that makes sense.

Again, it was cash games that ruined me. I tried switching tactics and playing a ton of full ring NL25 and started off pretty well but after a 1,500 hand session I was down four buy-ins and not a happy bunny at all. Some of my play was awful to say the least but I had my fair share of coolers like AQ into AK on an Ace-high flop against a short stack, overpairs into sets and stuff like that. One positive thing I took out of the losses was the fact I never tilted, not once, instead I just reloaded and got on with it.

Over the past three days I have not played a single hand, I've just not felt like it to be honest. I am trying to get away from playing tired / drunk / stressed and instead put in quality sessions when I want to play and feel good, not just because I have 30 minutes to do what I want with. I still feel like I have an edge in the micro/small stakes HUSNG so I might hit some of those later today if I manage to get back to sleep for a few hours.

I have been reading a lot of HUSNG articles and I think I've been getting too aggro with mediocre holdings, essentially running before I could walk, which has led to some big swings, which then hurt my confidence, which then leads me to question my ability. Having thought about my game a bit more I am inclined to think I would be suited to turbo structured games as I feel my edge is more mathematics based than read based and the push/fold game of some of the $5-$20 HUSNG players is so bad Baby Pud could do better if he could use a mouse!

I'll leave it there for now as Step Pud has finished his breakfast, Baby Pud is stirring and my 5th coffee since 4am is going cold!

As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the table!

I hear ya re the sleep deprivation. We too have recently had a newborn. 9 weeks old as of today and i have joined the ranks of the sleepless.

You are so right not to play when tired. It makes a world of difference being sharp and focused. Tiredness makes me play like a level 1 player and miss vital pieces of information.

Ive also noticed myself make a few mistakes when baby is in the room and needs attention while i have been playing.

Bottom line here is play your A game when not tired and not near the little one. If you have to play in those circumstances drop down a level or 2 and get your fix.

GL mr pud. will continue to follow your progress.
