It's poker blog round-up time once again, meaning another week has flown by and the weekend is almost upon us. This week's summary actually contains little in the way of poker content in the posts I'll mention but they are actually poker blogs. I think it is good to sometimes look into the lifestyles of poker players to see that they are actually normal, everyday people, not just robotic degenerates who sit calculating the EV of any given situation!
First up is Joppa Road, who has been mentioned on here before. When I first read his blog, I was unsure of his actual age, initially thinking he was another young keyboard warrior to add to the growing ranks, but it turns out nothing could be further from the truth. Joppa's writing style is unique in that it just draws you in and makes you want to finish the entire post but when the post ends you want to read some more. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is not afraid to speak his mind or share his experiences with his readers, most often in graphic detail!
His post at the end of last week goes to show some of the dangers of gambling in general. Joppa's had some problems with gambling and still does to this day and I think this post gets you thinking about certain elements of gambling and why I am thankful I can literally switch off when I want to because some people simply cannot.
Kevin Stevens keeps a blog by the name of Flip You For It and again is someone whose writing style is endearing. I love writers who can jot down their thoughts, feelings and stories in a way which makes it feel like they are talking to you face-to-face. In his recent post entitled "Pokerin again and supermarkets," Kevin starts off with some freeroll exploits he managed whilst off work with a bad back but then moves onto a classic post about his hatred for supermarkets and the staff who work there. I literally LOLd and got the impression he's not that keen on Jamie Oliver!
You've probably gathered by now that I love a good anecdote, I think it's partly down to the fact I am a nosey sod and from my time working in various bars where you're forced to listen to so many stories and tales that you actually start to like them! Anyway, Mike Saban recently wrote a monster post called "Memories" which is superb. It is a real feel good story and when I read it late last night I sat there smiling to myself; yes I'm sad but, whatever. Mike's also a very good tournament player so keep checking back for his exploits.
If you're a fan of High Stakes Poker, Late Night Poker, in fact any poker show on TV then the recent post by Emil 'Whitelime' Patel should have you moist with anticipation! Whitelime is an absolute poker beast, a total monster at the tables and is now going to be part of a ground breaking poker TV show where he Krantz (mention a couple of weeks ago). Ansky and Flawless are going to try and make $2,000,000 in two months! It should be fun to see four of the best online players in the world playing poker 24/7 and to witness the swings and how they deal with being in the spotlight, especially as some have some smoking habits that could be described as colourful or different!
Last but certainly not least is an entry from high-stakes guru, FoxwoodFiend, a friend of the guys mentioned in the paragraph above. Known as FWF on the forums, he recently took a long vacation where he did not blog but still kept a diary of his day, which he is now putting online as and when he gets the urge. On May 3, whilst in a yoga retreat he consulted the retreat's doctor about a few matters and the response he got was mind blowing.
I'll leave it there for now. If you check out any of the blogs and you enjoy them, please leave them a comment as they are the lifeblood of a blogger. You'd be surprised how welcome a "great post" comment is to some people; it often makes us carry on writing!
Enjoy the weekend, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!
