I am currently going through a torrid time at the tables, having failed to cash in the last 13 tournaments I have entered! It seems no matter what I do, I simply cannot win. If I have a pair then my opponent has a higher pair, if I have Big Slick and need to improve it never does and even when I get Aces they get out-flopped. The game really is testing my patience right now.

Despite being in the middle of my second worse run ever (I have gone 15 without cash before), I am still confident I will win each time I play. I searched one of the online tracking databases and found that 13 games is nothing when it comes to cash-less runs. A friend of mine who plays MTT's semi-professionally has gone a massive 52 games without cashing and even the great Annette Obrestad has gone 50 games without hitting the money. I hope I do not have to wait another 27 games before I get that winning feeling again!

One thing this bad streak has taught me is how important it is to have a big enough bankroll to sustain a string of defeats. In the past I have played with a small bankroll and when a bad spell hit me I played scared or had to drop down in stakes until the bad run was over. At least now I can stay at the same limits as I am used to, knowing that a deep final table finish will dig me out of the hole I am currently in.

I will leave you with this hand, which sums up how poker is going right now. Despite only being a 55/45 favourite against his hand when the money went in, he has to hit the perfect card on the river to rub it in!

As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables.

That is just variance; you can't let that get you down. Good decisions pay dividends in the long term. You have to remember at all times, that Lady Luck is a cheating bitch that will sleep with your friends at any moment.

    Hi all

I know it is just variance but I am a perfectionist and it does my head in when I play well for a couple of hours and then go home empty handed!

I'm only playing MTT's for a daft prop bet I made,I usually play cash and do ok! At least with cash if someone sucks out you have a chance of getting your chips back!
