One of my New Year's resolutions was to play more tournaments but because I was busy doing my nuts at the PLO tables I just did not have the time to register for any
Since the start of 2012 I have been splashing around at the Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) cash tables with varying degrees success. By varying degrees I actually mean I have been eating like a mouse but crapping like an elephant, which is not a pleasant experience I can tell you.
I got off to a flying start by having five winning days out of six, netting myself slightly over 5.8 buy-ins and to be honest I think I got sucked into thinking I was about to become the next Phil Galfond, taking the PLO world by storm but variance has a habit of dragging many like-minded fools into similar situations before hitting you square in the face with a nail-studded bat. That's how it felt anyway.
The next five days resulted in me losing the 5,8 buy-in profit and shipping a further five buy-ons on top too, though my EV stat reckons I should have lost 3.5 buy-ins less. I shouldn't really moan about variance when choosing to play a game like PLO but my God it is stressful! I spent a large percentage of 2011 trying to get over my tilt problems in cash games and although I did not go on tilt I could feel myself sliding down the slippery slope towards the dreaded four letter word.
My losses were a mixture of being too aggressive and the fact I ran worse than Heather Mills would do if someone nicked her prosthetic leg. Apparently you can run like Usain Bolt or Paul McCartney's ex for several thousand hands and because I was sliding towards thinking "F%$k this for a game of soldiers" I decided to take a break and play something less stressful, turbo MTTSNG! LOL!
One of my New Year's resolutions was to play more tournaments but because I was busy doing my nuts at the PLO tables I just did not have the time to register for any. But over the last couple of nights I have made time for some, playing six at a time, and completed a total of 15 of them. From those I've made it through to the money three times, reaching one final table so although it is uber early days I am on the right track. Fifteen of these babies is nothing at all, in fact you can play hundreds and hundreds of them without even getting near the money, doesn't that sound similar?
Goodbye to one type of variance, hello to even more!
