Deep runs, luxurious surroundings and vodka!

Since my last post my sister has become a Mrs, I've drank my own bodyweight in Smirnoff, Betfair have moved to a new home and, somehow, I've continued making some deep runs in MTTs.

Saturday was the long-awaited wedding of my sister and her long-term partner at the luxurious Oulton Hall. After ferrying Mrs P to my mum's to get ready with the bride and the other bridesmaid and then taking the kids to their grans I made my way to my sister's house to get ready with the groom and the best man.

After getting dressed up like a dogs dinner the vintage 1981 Chevrolet Corvette C3 arrived to take us, in separate trips obv, to the venue. After three million photos, I kid you not, and ushering people into the beautifully decorated room the ceremony took place. With my sister looking absolutely stunning, walking in to the tune to Love Story (my deceased grandad's favourite song) and my dad reading a thought-provoking poem he had written, it was quite an emotional affair.

The food was amazing and unusually for a wedding there were no arguments. Well there was a small one between yours truly and the bar staff after they confiscated my bottle of vodka. My sister told me any alcoholic gifts addressed to her could be opened and with it being £4 a pint, £4.20 a bottle of lager and £9 for a glass of wine I decided to bring a litre bottle of Smirnoff with me.

An eagle eyed bar staff saw it and nicked it off me! Fuelled with tons of ale from early in the day I made a stand and basically demanded it back. The duty manager then stepped in and rather than cause a scene on my sister's big day I paid them £40 corkage fee to drink my own ale! We worked out to drink the equivalent over the bar would be upwards of £260 so paying £40 was obviously +EV, in a roundabout kind of way! Anyway, the entire day was great, met some fantastic people and caught up with family members. The loved up couple are now sunning themselves in Sri Lanka and the Maldives for two weeks, I'm not jealous, honest.

I'm not wanting to jinx myself but the Poker Gods (amen) seem to be smiling down on me for some reason, maybe as repayment for all the shit they've put me through over the years. I've played another ten of the 90 man KO games and not exactly set the world on fire, cashing just the once (8th) and bubbling one in 10th.

I've had a few deep runs, 211/1,235, 120/614 and 317/1,304 are highlights but I've also had some semi-decent cashes too. The night before the wedding I finished 7/282 before I lost a huge pot for half the chips in play with AA vs Q* on a Q-high flop. On Monday night I was invited to play in a $400 freeroll on the old Betfair software, the final Donkies vs Dinkies event with 58 fellow invitees. After a gruelling 4.5 hours I found myself heads-up against a high-stakes regular WannaCookie. It's bad enough playing against someone who is better than you but when they are running good too you have no chance! I busted in second, good for $80, not bad for a freeroll!

Then last night I downloaded the new Betfair software and played in two MTTs. I accidentally registered for a short-handed game and busted in a not so impressive 378/868 but I did manage to come 38/899 in the $5.50 $3,500 GTD event at 2100 UK time. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come.

Although I am still making a lot of mistakes, at least I realise this, I am going deep in tournaments which is great. I honestly feel I'll have a major, by my standards anyway, score during August and doing so would open some door to playing bigger tournaments and larger cash games. I almost withdrew from Full Tilt to put it all on Betfair but I've decided to keep things as they are as both tournament schedules complement each other so it makes sense to have a roll spread around.

Well, that's all for now, as always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!
