December Goals
I have had the bright idea to write this blog entry at 0330 in the morning after Step Pud woke up screaming at 0230 as he is scared of the dark and the landing light decided to die last night, so bare with me if it is sketchy!
Despite only having three and a half hours sleep, I seem to be pretty awake, which is probably why I could not get back to sleep on the sofa when I initially came downstairs. I have never noticed the wall clock ticking so loudly, or the freezer in the kitchen whirring away so I decided to get up and have an early start to the day! I would say thank God for coffee but I have just used my last spoonful and the shop does not open for another three hours! Lovely!
Anyway, with there only being a month left of 2008 I thought it would be best to try and end the month on a high note and log some volume. After numerous conversations with poker playing mates, I have opted to continue playing NLHE cash despite the fact I have essentially been break even for an extended period of time. The main reason for this is the fact I enjoy it and at the end of the day, shouldn't I be playing something I enjoy rather than turning everything into a grind?
I am aiming to play at least 15,000 hands of NL10 6-max but possibly as many as 30,000 if I can get used to playing over four tables for extended periods of time. I think this number of hands should start to see the variance even out a tad and then in January I can do a stat pots and find any obvious leaks.
Also, having stopped smoking now for over four months I think it is time to lower or stop my beer intake. I like a beer and it is force of habit to have a cold one when everything is done for the day but I want to have a clear head, not only for my poker playing but also because over the next few months my sleep is going to be destroyed with the arrival f Baby Pud in March! Oh, and I have put on a ton of weight over the past couple of months too so need to shift some poundage too!
The final goal is to set aside at least ten minutes for every hour I play in order to go over key hands etc from my session. This is something I used to do but have neglected in the past and something that is essential to become a better player. I am in awe of John Tabatabai who has made great inroads into his cash challenge and whilst I do not think I will ever reach his skill level, I know I can vastly improve my skills right now.
Oh, finished my coffee, only 2.5 hours left until I can have another!
As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!

alright Matt
hows it going mate. Glad babyP was ok at the scan. we are in the same boat as you, gotta go back for a 2nd 20 week scan as they couldnt see the heart properly.
Why dont you forget about the amount of hands you play and all the stats and have a go at "just playing". I am doing that this month as an experiment to see how it goes (no hud/stats/tracking), plus tonnes of patience and trying to ignore the money aspect of it....going ok upto now.
Good luck mate and stick to it...whatever you decide to play!!
