A bumper field of 93 runners parted with $510 in exchange for 5,000 chips on Sunday 7 March for the weekly HOT! $40k Guaranteed but it was ReidHorkins who outlasted them all to claim the $13,950 first prize.
Betfair sponsored pro, John "kanku wap" Tabatabai suffered the heart break of being bubble-boy for the second time in as many weeks. He was cruising for a final table finish but ran KT into AT before shoving the rest of his short stack in with K8 only to run into the pocket Queens of LILIPOP. Tabatabai vented his frustration in the chat box as some observers attempted to console him.
Final Table starting stacks
Me15 - 150,671
bethammer - 112,079
LILIPOP - 51,189
jahbulon111 - 44,680
arbboy - 31,457
ReidHorkins - 23,958
adamyyy - 23,394
zzz123zzz - 20,670
gardsgut - 6,898
The blinds at the final table were 750/1500 with a running ante of 150, meaning some of the shorter stacks would need to make a move sooner rather than later. Around five minutes into play gardsgut earned a much needed triple up when jahbulon111 raised to 4,000 in the hikack, only to see adamyyy move all-in for 20,094 on the button. The short-stacked gardsgut eventually made the call in the small blind, and the original raiser folded. It looked on course for the first elimination as gardsgut held KdJd against adamyyy's red Queens but a board of 2h9d3sJcKs saw gardgut rake in the 22,746 pot.
Just two minutes later we did have our first bust-out in a blind versus blind battle between the big stack Me15 and zzz123zzz. The action folded around to Me15 in the small blind and he moved his 150,000+ stack into the middle for the second time in two hands. zzz123zzz called off the rest of his 10 big blind stack with AsKc and was in a typical race situation against Me15's pocket fours. The board ran out TdTc5hQc9c and zzz123zzz headed for the rail with $1,627.50 for his efforts.
After the break the blinds rose to 1,000/2,000 (200) putting some of the players previously comfortable, into the danger zone. Almost straight after the restart we were down to seven players after jahbulon111 raised to 5,600 in the hijack only to be re-raised to 14,550 by LILIPOP in the big blind. Jahbulon111 then moved all-in for his remaining 50,000 with a pair of jacks and was instantly called by LILIPOP holding Big Slick. Trip threes on the final board gave jahbulon111 a full house and a 110,982 stack to play with.
Shortly after gardsgut made a move on when the action folded to him on the button and he went all-in for around nine big blinds holding Ac3h only to run straight into the Pocket Rockets of Me15 in the big blind. No miracle flop for gardsgut meant he was eliminated in seventh place and was awarded $2557.50 for his troubles.
Some time passed until the play went five handed as both adamyyy and arbboy were kept alive by split pots. But then another blind versus blind situation saw jahbulon111 head for the exit. ReidHorkins raised first-in from the big blind to 6,300 and was called by jahbulon111 in the big blind. The flop came down 4d8dKc. ReidHorkins lead out for 8,000 and was called by his opponent. The turn brought the 7d and ReidHorkins again came out betting, this time for 12,000 and again he was called. When the river brough the three of hearts, ReidHorkins moved all-in for 50,466 into a 54,100 pot and after using some of his time bank jahbulon111 made the call for his tournament life. ReidHorkins showed a king-high flush holding KdQd which was more than enough to beat his opponent's pair of eights made with 9h8h.
A few hands later and the tournament was down to four-handed when ReidHorkins eliminated adamyyy with a pair of tens against adamyyy's pair of twos. adammy took home $3,720 for his valiant effort.
Chip stacks four handed
Me15 - 186,324
ReidHorkins - 185,391
bethammer - 67,408
arbboy - 25,965
After just two minutes of short-handed play there was another elimination. First bethammer made it 6,300 to go only to see arbboy move all-in for 24,965. bethammer made the call with AcTd only to see arbboy was holding a pair of red kings. A flop of 8hTs7s brought some hope to bethammer and when the 9s arrived on the turn he had outs to the nut flush but the eight of diamonds on the river doubled up arbboy and made bethammer the short stack.
Then the very next hand arbboy raised preflop and got a call from bethammer. arbboy them bet very small on a 8h4sKh flop, prompting bethammer to raise the action up. arbboy then moved all-in and was quickly called by his opponent. bethammer revealed Ks7s but was in a world of pain as arbboy held a pair of kings again for top set. The turn gave bethammer outs to the flush but it failed to hit on the river and we were now down to just three players.
It took almost half an hour for the play to reach heads-up and it was arbboy who was eliminated in third place with a cooler of a hand. He made it 11,400 to go with blinds at 2,000/4,000 (400) which saw ReidHorkins move all-in for 130,000. arbboy made the call and revealed a pair of red jacks which were massively behind to his opponent's pocket Queens. A board of KsAh9d2h meant arbboy would need a jack and only a jack to stay in the tournament but the dealer put out the ten of hearts and we were heads-up.
Me15 had a chip advantage of 264,244 to 200,755 at the beginning of the heads-up battle but the tables were soon turned with another cooler hand. On a board reading 3s7d2h4s4h, ReidHorkins bet out 24,000 into a 40,000 pot. Me15 then made it 72,000, having hit trip fours on the river, but he was instantly called as ReidHorkins had turned a straight holding Ah5h to give him a 100,000 chip advantage.
The final hand of the night saw Me15 min-raise on the button to 10,000, a bet that was called by his opponent. The flop came down 5dAsJd which saw ReidHorkins check but then raise his opponent's 12,000 bet to 40,000, Me15 made the call and both players saw the Td arrive on the turn. ReidHorkins then bet enough to set Me15 all-in, a bet that he called before revealing Ac4d for top pair, which was in front of ReidHorkins QdTh. However, poker can be a cruel beast and the river was the Queen of clubs to award the win to ReidHorkins.
