ANOTHER day and with it the chance to see another poker film.
Hollywood is a barometer of the popularity of poker. When they stop making films about poker, you know the boom is over.
Having seen The Grand and Lucky You doing for poker what Jaws did for swimming (ie nothing) the Poker Anorak gets an preview for The Deal. Will this one be better? Will this one be THE poker movie?
The plot is that an old ex-gambler teaches a young blade some things about playing cards.
Expectation should be low.
The mentor is pulled into the world series of poker, and - get this - his protégé is his toughest competition on the final table.
Yes, it's one of those films.
And it's terrible realistic, it says here. Scott Lazar, who finished sixth at the 2005 World Series of Poker main event, acted as the executive producer and poker consultant on the film.
