Playing Poker In Your Sleep

HANDS up those of you who want to play poker for 24-hours straight.

Not play for 24 hours by accident, unable to leave a game until closure, but go into such a marathon session with eyes wide open. Hands up who want to play.

That's right. No-one sane would volunteer to play poker for 24 hours without a break. It is a foolish idea what can only be attractive to fools.

And because the world is full of fools the Holden Poker Chat 24 hour marathon will happen.

But before you can sign up for sleep depravation, read the disclaimer. And know that: "If you have a medical condition or feel yourself getting very tired, GET SOME SLEEP."

That's right, even the event organisers think entrants are so very dumb they need to be told that when tired they should "sleep". Who knew? But there it is in black and white.

Other tips: "DO NOT use substances to keep you awake" and "You do not need to compete in all the tournaments to be the overall winner."

There are 24 tournaments in all, and - yes, indeed - that means one tourny an hour.

And the incentive? Well, get a load of this: "1st Place - An Ipod Nano, HPC hat and $250."

And "If you compete in all 24 games, you will receive an Ironman Forum Title", doubtless in the form of a HPC huge conical-shaped hat with an impressive "D" stick on the front.

So long as it's big enough to stare into as you hallucinate, then what the hey. You're in it to win it.

On a plus side, though, Jimmy Lee Shreeve says on his blog that to win at poker: "It's about adopting a zen-like mindset and allowing your subconscious mind to help you make the right moves."

Yes, you don't even need to be awake to win. Again, who knew?

Play online and never leave your bed...
