The talk of the new Gambling Act which allows for adverts for betting on television has been of doom and gloom.
The miserabilists offer an odds-on bet that we are going to win the race to hell in a handcart. Gambling problems should not be made light of but the doom-sayers believe gambling is wrong and reversible.
Meanwhile, over in the US, word reaches us that Bart Simpson is extolling the fun to be had playing poker. Nancy Cartwright, who gives the yellow cartoon character his voice, is hosting a poker tournament, the grandly named 2nd Annual Monte Carlo Night, at her home.
We can imagine the outrage if a children's character supported gambling in the UK? Whatever next? Rupert The Bear has given up the fags but is holding pocket fives...
