Mass Effect

Mass Effect

After a great start to the year at the Omaha tables my poker playing has essentially dried up and I simply haven't played over the past week or so. Well that's a lie as I've probably played around 1,000 hands but in the grand scheme of things it is nothing

The main reason for not playing is I am very busy with home life at the minute and have very little spare time to play. I shouldn't moan about having lots of work to do, especially as some poor sods are really struggling, but it is taking some getting used to, especially as organising my time is not one of my strong points. After reading and writing about poker for 8 hours a day I am finding it difficult to motivate myself to grinding micro cash games.

We have also had a rough few weeks on the family front, first Mrs P's grandma died after a short illness and my own grandma has been diagnosed with what will ultimately be terminal cancer and is currently staying in hospital where she will likely stay for the rest of her days. Obviously these goings on put poker into perspective and the urge to play has not been that great.

I have spent a few hours in front of my TV playing Mass Effect, a superb action-RPG from Bioware and I can safely say I am well and truly hooked! I bought the game last year and never really got into it but I saw it in Asda for £12 so snapped it up and decided to give it another go. I'm glad I did because it is an amazing game with a superb storyline and once I have completed it (most players take 60-80 hours to do so) I'll be rushing straight out to buy Mass Effect 2 which was released earlier this month. I'm finding myself wanting to go on missions around the galaxy rather than booting up the poker client, this is not good!

Back to poker, I am toying with the idea of teaching myself how to mass multi-table so that when I do play some poker I will log some semi-decent volume, a constant struggle of mine. The problem with doing this is that I do not think I could play more than four tables of Omaha so I might have to move back to full ring No-limit Hold'em so I can play 12+ tables at once. Unlike in the past, where I have made decisions on a whim, I am really going to consider all options open to me and choose what is best for me and my lifestyle.

Off on some sort of tangent, I have just heard on the radio that Michael Carroll, the self proclaimed King of Chavs has managed to blow his entire £10,000,000 lottery win from eight years ago and is now signing on at the Job Centre. At first I was happy he is broke but then my happiness turned to anger as the realisation of him spunking away more than I would earn in several lifetimes became apparent. In my opinion he should not get a penny of the tax payers money despite contributing through his tax and VAT over the past eight years. If he had invested in business and had lost his dough this way then fair enough but he has wasted £10,000,000 and now wants us to prop him up. No way Jose.

I suppose on that note I will call it a day. I am off to try an improve my time management skills and then I have a meeting with a bank manager who I am trying to convince to give me a business account despite having a bankruptcy on my credit file! Should be fun.

As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables.
