Over the past week or so I have been helping recategorise the poker articles on this site so that they are easier to search through. As a result I have been able to read over a ton of old entries and I must say what a miserable sod I have been!

For a while now I have had the demon that is depression on my shoulder. He follows me all the time, sat on my shoulder waiting to pounce and knock me down. Usually I can keep it under control but over the past couple of months I've been fighting a losing battle.

I can't quite put my finger on what the problem has been but last week I said enough was enough and went to the docs for some help. The quack's put me back on my anti-depressants so we'll see how I get on over the next few weeks. I've only been taking them for about a week, not really enough for them to get into my system, but I already feel better. Maybe it is because I have actually done something about it rather than sat feeling rubbish.

Part of me feeling better is probably due to the fact I have given up drinking for a while. Whilst I wasn't a massive drinker, Mrs P and do like a beer on an evening and if you have any sort of mental illness then you need to lay off the amber nectar. It's been five days since I had any alcohol and that includes going to a kids part in a pub where I drank coke! How's that for will power?

I'm not going to go tee-total, no way on this planet, as I like beer too much but I'm going to take time out until Christmas to let the meds kick in properly and take it from there. I must admit though it is great waking up on a morning after a few hours of broken sleep and not feeling like turd!

Whilst my lifestyle is changing so is my work. I have been asked to work on a long-term project which will basically take up a lot of time. Where that leaves this little blog I do not know but I am hoping they let me carry it on and at least my poker blog round-up each week. I don't see why they'd object, especially as it's for the same company but again we'll wait and see how things develop.

Since my lifestyle and job are changing, I might as well change my poker too. Frequent readers of this blog, and any blogs I have kept in the past, know my two biggest flaws in poker are changing what I play all the time and cashing out when I have a decent score.

When I first started playing Hold'em, I wanted to learn everything about it and I mean everything. Fast forward to today and the game bores me to tears. It probably wouldn't be the case if I were playing for decent stakes but I simply do not have the resources to jump straight into NL100 nor do I have the patience to sit and grind 100k hands of NL10-NL50 in order to progress to mid-stakes.

With that in mind I am going to spend 2010 learning a new game. Learning something new should kickstart me into really enjoying the game again and as I will be keen to learn, the fact I will be playing for low stakes will not bother me. I've been toying with the idea of playing HORSE or simply Stud but I am now torn between learning Pot-limit Omaha or Omaha Hi/low split. I've been dabbling with them both over the past couple of days, only at the nano-stakes and I have really enjoyed myself, especially at the hi/low split games.

I'm really geared up for 2010 and think it could be a very good year for poker for me. I no longer have the pressures to withdraw my bankroll, I will have my mental issues sorted out and I won't be drinking whilst playing. I know sorting the last two things will allow me to focus on one particular game and hopefully beat it for a decent amount of moolah!

As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables!
