Continuing our Heroes of Finland series, the Poker Anorak looks at the high-stakes tables on Betfair and a Finland IP called "kuna".
Yesterday, kuna was sitting with close to $200,000 across several tables. Gone are the days of LoisLane (Norway) and Sincero (Italy) - there is a new sheriff in town.
The identity of kuna is, for now, a mystery. Although we do know that the Kuwait News Agency is called KUNA. The kuna is the currency of Croatia. Kuna is the name of an indigenous people of Panama and Colombia. Kuna is a town in Idaho.
Betfair's kuna played a short session of 100/200 PLO against Erik1234 yesterday, taking him for close to $100,000. We estimate that was roughly half of what kuna made in the day.
Some might see this as someone to avoid at the tables - others might see it as a challenge - either way keep an eye on this shark.
Back in May, Betfair Poker was seeing some of the most exiting High-Stakes action on the internet with regular pots in excess of $200,000. Betfair's reputation for integrity and security is a key factor when players are risking hundreds of thousand.
We'd suggest watching or "railing" the big games on Betfair to see how the real pros play - you can keep a smaller gaming going on the side. But beware about copying what they do - the style of play at high stakes often differs from low stakes and what makes a profitable player at 100/200 might send you broke at 1/2...
