SHENG Chi, God of Wealth, has been welcoming visitors to the Bellagio's Conservatory for the Chinese New Year.
Not the real Mr Chi, you understand, but an effigy made of plaster and paint. Of course, given the distraction on offer in Vegas, and the hoopla, the casino owners might well have booked the actual Mr Chi.
And they might have got him.
It might be that while stood in the foyet dispensing good luck vibes and blessings, Mr Chi became distracted and nipped off to play the penny slots, leaving a customised mannequin in his place.
Might.
Could.
If.
Maybe.
It's the langue of the gambler.
That's the thing with Vegas, it makes you believe.
And then - and unless you are very lucky and have been smiled upon by Mr Chi - it dashes them against the edge of a marble table.
This year, it's the year of the rat. The rat is associated with wealth and material prosperity.
Is Vegas a rat?

Las Vegas is founded as a city on May 15, 1905, when 110 acres of land situated between Stewart Avenue on the north, Garces Avenue to the south, Main Street to the west, and 5th Street (Las Vegas Boulevard) to the east, are auctioned off."
That was the years of the snake.
The snake:
In ancient Taoism, the Snake is the symbol of wisdom. Therefore people born during the Year of the Snake are said to be endowed with deep philosophical understanding. They are born thinkers who excel in finding solutions to complex problems. In matters of business they can be shrewd, biding their time in making a deal only to strike like lightning and make a killing when they judge the moment is right.
