The Kitten Charity Poker Tournament - Official Report

A total of 95 players, of very different standards, lined up for the tournament on Tuesday 5th May. A few players never actually played although they had registered, which was great news for me - the theory being that if I just had a nap for an hour or so, and waited for them to get blinded out, I could guarantee that I would not come last! At least that was the theory.........
"The $950 charity element of the buy-in's was matched by Betfair, meaning that a total of $1900 was raised for Leukaemia Care! Well done to everyone involved."
Early exchanges were by and large like a game of chess although jstplyn took a small early lead. I was on the same table as him and after a few people had been knocked out I was dealt a pair of 4's. I decided that this was the moment to strike. The flop came J, 8, 9 - after some careful consideration, (well at least two seconds), I went ALL IN having convinced myself that jstplyn would be trounced with my magnificent hand. Turns out the sneaky so and so had a Jack in his hand and that was me out of the running - and jstplyn's chip lead extended. He also earnt himself an entry to a $20K guaranteed tournament for knocking me out.
Not long after this, the two other players with bounties on their heads found themselves up against each other. I did not see the hand myself but the result was Froggitt ended up knocking out my old mate fiveleaves. Froggitt therefore ended up in the unique position of having a bounty on his head whilst having a $20K guaranteed entry in the bag already! It seemed to be justice as without Froggitt's hard work the tournament would never have taken place anyway! fiveleaves was a bit unlucky by all accounts but I guess that's poker for you!
My attention was now with rizzorat, who just happened to be my daughter! She played a good game but ended up going out in around 20th place. jstplyn by this time was not just leading - he was miles ahead on the chip count - it looked like a foregone conclusion as we got down the the final table.
But we had not counted on read'em doing a fantastic impersonation of Pieter De Korver. He grinded away on the final table until we were left with three players:-
Froggitt (short-stacked)
read'em
jstplyn
Froggitt went out from an impossible position and read'em won a $20K seat in the process. The heads up game was aggressive and read'em finally beat jstplyn who had been leading more or less right from the start.
The $950 charity element of the buy-in's was matched by Betfair, meaning that a total of $1900 was raised for Leukaemia Care! Well done to everyone involved. The donations page is still open at:-

Epilogue
read'em (Forum name HYPE) very generously put his $20K seat up for auction on the Poker Forum with the proceed going to Leukaemia CARE. The winning bid from PrettyAces was $350 plus 100% of any winnings to charity - on the condition that The Kitten played the tournament on her behalf. aristonandon also donated a $20K seat so it look like I'm going to have two cracks at winning some more money for charity!
Thanks again to everyone involved - the event was a great success and is testament to the generosity that abounds on Betfair!
