Kitten Poker Tournament - Update

From the Forum RSS / Dave Allan / 26 April 2009 / 6 Comments

Special Forum regular Chris Cork introduces the Kitten Charity Poker Tournament to be held on Tuesday 5th May.

Tuesday 5th May - make a note of that date now!

The Kitten Charity Poker Tournament will kick off at 7:30pm - and I am keen to make it a real success.

In November 2008 I was diagnosed as having Chronic Leukaemia. I had not been feeling too well since an operation for a brain tumour a few years ago - and I just assumed that all my symptoms were a result of the surgery to have the tumour removed. I was wrong - and when I was told that I had Chronic Leukaemia it was one hell of a shock. I am unable to work now and as Leukaemia is a slow progressive disease the future is uncertain.

Then Leukaemia CARE came into the picture. I contacted them via their website - http://www.leukaemiacare.org.uk/1/home.html and they sent me literature concerning my condition and have always been there for me when I have needed somebody to talk to. They do a fantastic job in supporting Leukaemia sufferers and they have no government funding at all - that is why I want to help them so much. I ask for your support for a very worthy cause - these volunteers need it.

The tournament itself is a $20 buy-in, with 50% of that buy-in going to Leukaemia CARE. What is more, Betfair have very generously agreed to match that amount - so, in effect, 100% of your $20 buy-in is going to charity.

As an additional bonus, Specials Forum regulars Froggitt, fiveleaves and The Kitten have a bounty on their heads - knock one of them out of the tournament and you will receive an entry to a $20K guaranteed tournament! It should be a great evening with the usual forum banter flying about, so I hope you can make it to the tables!

I have been staggered by the generosity of Betfair Forumites. I have set up a page for donations to Leukaemia CARE - http://www.justgiving.com/thekitten . This is primarily for people who would like to donate if they are unable to play in the Poker Tournament for whatever reason. At time of writing, the donation total is over £3,100 - my target is £5,000 - can you spare a few pounds to help me achieve it?

If you have already donated - I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you have not got round to it yet - every £1 raised is a contribution that I really appreciate - so go on, be part of that £5,000 that I am aiming for! I have never really been involved in any fundraising before now and it is truely uplifting to see the support that you have shown so far.

So roll on May 5th - and let's make it a tournament to remember!

Thanks again,

Chris Cork

That's not really me in the picture - I'm much better looking.

    Hi.Kitten,

You won't remember me, but we have spoken once or twice on the Special's forum. As a small-time trader and avid reader, (but infrequent poster,) I have benefited from your insight and tips regarding price movements many times, especially on BB.

I found your advice to be genuine and honest, not the ramping you were sometimes accused of by those who didn't know your record. As such, I was touched by your current problems, and ,even though I don't play poker, felt compelled to register, (poker alias= timbucktooth) as some small gesture of thanking you.

I wish you the very best healthwise and I hope YOU win this tournament.

    Hi Kendall,

Yes, I am a BB addict and I am glad you have benefitted from some of my ramblings. Nobody gets it right all the time but the beauty of BB is that if you are prepared to put the hours in it can be an annual goldmine. The secret in my opinion is to be a constant viewer of live feed and react to events as they happen in real time - this often offers trading opportunities when the rest of humanity catches up when they view the highlights show. I find the whole BB concept fascinating - I got into it when I was Specials Compiler for a well known bookie from BB2 throught to BB7. I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea, but each to their own, eh?

I've read that there is no live feed this year. If that's so - it's killed it as a betting medium for me, which is a great shame.

If anyone wants to back me to win the tournament, I'm laying at 100! I wonder if Betfair would consider opening a market "The Kitten's finishing position"? :)

    Hi Golfnut,

Sorry you will always be golfnut to me. I hope you remember me, as I have fond memories of some good banter and information swapping on the UBF forum. No less the time I whipped your ass by selecting Inman to perform better that Dent in a Seniors event :o))
There are not many guys out there we can honestly tag one of the good guys, but you are way up high in that catagory. This news has shocked me and left me close to speechless.
I now live in Asia and I am unable to download the poker software or I would have burnt the midnight oil to be there. Not because I would have stayed in for very long, but because I am six hours ahead.
Anyway I have a new card on the first of May and will deposit some cash when it activates :o))
I hope you have a great night o the 5th.

    Hi Jim,

Yes of course I remember you - and our online banter! In those days I was compiling Seniors golf as well as Big Brother and all the rest of the obscure things that we used to offer.

I am very touched by your comments. It's heartwarming to realise that you understand my enthusiasm for the events I covered. I truely loved my job and I suppose that enthusiasm overflowed onto the forums a lot of the time.

Alas, all that is in the past now - I'm just unable to function physically and mentally like I used to. It is very frustrating at times - "spiritually" I still want to have that zest for life that I used to have but it's just not there any more.

Anyway, lovely to hear from you and - well - if you are ever back in the UK - let me know! :-)

    Chris
