WE celebrate the new stars, and we lament the passing of the old.

It is with sadness the Poker Anorak tells you of the death of David "Chip" Reese, three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner. He was just 56.

Card Player magazine notes that Reese was considered the best seven-card stud player in the world. He was the youngest player ever inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1991.

As noted: "He affirmed his position as one of the world's best all-around players in 2006 when he won the $50,000 WSOP H.O.R.S.E. event ($1.8 million). He also won bracelets in 1982 and 1978 ($5,000 limit stud and $1,000 stud split)."

"Many consider Chip the greatest cash-game player who ever lived, but he was also a World Series of Poker legend," said WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.

Reese was also known as one of the greatest cash game players who ever lived.

"Anyone who plays the biggest games in Vegas for 30 years demands huge respect, it is a sad day for poker," said Betfair's Poker Director Bruce Stubbs.
