Betfair pro Sorel Mizzi's last minute decision to take part in the EPT Warsaw could turn out to be a great one as he closes in on yet another live tournament cash.
Having played WPT Marrakech earlier in the month, the talented young Canadian flew into Poland at the last minute, with one of his Facebook updates stating, "Just landed in Poland! Playing EPT Warsaw in 2 hours on no sleep obv!" with his Twitter account telling us he was "double fisting Redbull and cappuccinos" to keep awake!
Mizzi ended Day 1b with 17,250 chips but during Day2 he really came into form and was quickly up to around 120,000 chips and looking set to cruise into the money. He continued to build and hit the dizzy heights of 215,000 before dropping back down to 195,000 when his KsQs lost to Ace-eight on an 8s9s5x board. However, Mizzi won a prop bet with Dario Mineri on the odds of his hand winning on that flop, some consolation at least.
Lady Luck was not shining on 'Imper1um' as he got Jacks all-in preflop against Kings and the flop gave his opponent quads. This little set back knocked him down to around 135,000 and ten minutes later his stack was further reduced when his Qc4c ran into, and I quote, "Some clown's aces"
Despite these late setbacks, Mizzi ended the day with 99,500 chips, enough to see him 26th from the remaining 55 players, with the top 24 finishers being paid. Blinds will be 1000/2000 with a running ante of 200 when play resumes, giving Mr Mizzi just under 50 big blinds to play with, or an M-factor of around 21.
