Joseph cada is now sporting a similar bracelet after his amazing victory
Joseph Cada, a 21-year old from Shelby Township, Michigan has become the youngest-ever World Series of Poker Main Event Champion after defeating Darvin Moon heads-up.
Cada, predominately an online player, entered the match with a commanding 135,950,000 to 58,850,000 lead over his Maryland Logger opponent but that lead was to be cut significantly as eary as the first hand.
Moon opted to simply complete his small blind but Cada had other idea, making a raise of 3,500,000, a bet that Moon quickly called. The dealer burned a card and dealt the 3sKs2d flop and Cada seized the initiative and lead out for another 3,500,000. Moon obviously did not believe Cada was strong and almost immediately raised the action to 10,000,000.
Surprisingly Cada made the call and both players saw the Ad arrive on the turn. This time Cada checked his option but then called another 10,000,000 bet from Moon. Another King, this time in clubs, was dealt on the river and this time both players checked. Moon took the large pot with his pair of Queens whilst Cada showed a pair of nines before throwing them into the muck. First blood to Moon.
Barry Greenstein was watching the play from the rail and commented that Cada was trying to outplay his opponent and that it would be his undoing. "The Bear" was correct as by hand 12 Moon had managed not only to catch up to Cada in terms of chips, but actually take the chip lead.
Before the final table Moon was playing very tight but he has obviously had some coaching as he was playing hyper-aggressively. Whenever Cada asked a question he was forced into a decision for most r all of his chips and Moon was quite literally hoovering up chips. After a short 20-minute break, Moon won 14 of the first 21 pots to take a commanding 145,200,000 to 49,600,000 chip lead.
Then a key hand occurred that swung the match in the favour of young Cada. Hi made his standard 3,000,000 raise from the button and Moon elected to flat-call him. Both players then checked down a Tc5d9h board before a flurry of action happened on the arrival of the Td on the turn. Moon checked, Cada bet 5,000,000 and Moon announced he was all-in.
Cada looked very uncomfortable but eventually took a drink from his bottle of water and said quietly, "I call." He showed Jh9d whilst Moon revealed 8s7s for an open-ended straight draw. Cada needed to dodge a six of jack to stay in the tournament and when the 3h came down on the river, Cada's supporters went berserk!
This game Cada a 22,000,000 chip advantage and just eight hands later it was all over. Once again Cada raised to 3,000,000 on the button but this time Moon re-raised the action to 8,000,000. Cada, known as JCADA99 online, checked his cards and moved the rest of his stack into the middle. Moon also took a glimpse of his cards and quickly called, showing QdJd.
Cada was ahead, but only slightly, with his pocket nines and we were off to the races. A flop reading 8c2c7s extended Cada's lead but there were groans from the crowd as the Kh landed on the turn as people thought it was one of the Queens or Jacks moon needed. Alas it wasn't and Cada was one street away from claiming the title. As the 7c arrived on the river, Moon looked dejected, hanging his head whilst Cada was mobbed by family and friends, all wanting to get near poker's newest champion.
Being eight days shy of his 22nd birthday makes Josepah Cada the youngest ever World Series of Poker Main Event winner, taking that accolade from last year's winner Peter Eastgate. For his efforts Mr Cada is awarded $8,547,042 and the most sought after piece of poker jewellery a WSOP bracelet.
Darvin Moon's extraordinary journey is now over and he heads back to Maryland with $5,182,928 to console himself with.
Congratulations to Joseph Cada, the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion!
