Devilfish and Hellmuth talk tough but who has all the chips?
THE WSOPE has a certain razzamatazz.
Burnt into our membrane is the vision of Dave "Devil Fish" Ulliott, from Hull, rocking up for the WSOPE press conference in a Hummer festooned with showgirls.
He soon after began addressing world champion Phil "Poker Brat" Hellmuth.
"You may be the King of Europe, Fish," said Hellmuth, "but I'm the King of the World."
(Hellmuth might care to note that Leonardo "Di" Caprio is the actual King of the World, and we have the DVD to prove it.)
Other notable names are Chris "Jesus" Ferguson - he's got long hair - and Doyle "Dolly" Brunson and Johnny "The Orient Express" Chan.
But the most successful middle name so far belongs to Jon "Pearljammer" Turner who, at the time of writing, boats a "top chip" count of 60975.
Top of the pile as of Thu, Sep 13th 2007 at 11:21:27 is Gus Hansen, holding 349400 chips. His middle name is unmentioned, but if his run continues we may see it printed on a certain golden bracelet...
