Best Ever: Ungar V Hellmuth

CHANNEL 4 has yet to spend a Saturday night taking the institutionalised, friendless and bed-bound through "the 100 Greatest Poker Players - EVER!" but if it did, who would in?

JPJ writs on the forums: "I had this discussion earlier with regards these two as the best ever No Limit Texas Hold'em player. So who do you think is the best?"

JPJ writes that Ungar "was classed as the best by his peers, but he chucked it all away with drink and drugs and never went on to full fill his promise. Perhaps he would have won 20 bracelets, perhaps he wouldn't have won another...We will never know." JPJ settle upon Hellmuth.

Chilindude 2 responds: "Just read about Ungar for the first time. He seems to have been the best player at the time, however he was blessed with an unfair advantage (super high IQ and memory)." It's unfair to be clever?

Jazzy Jon goes for Ungar.

And JPJ opines: "As I've said before, it is very hard to measure success in poker if we are not using money as a yardstick, and people don't reveal all in cash games. So measuring players on bracelets/cashes/final tables then Hellmuth stands alone."

What do you think?
