Could it be that a poker 'anthem' will give England's egg-chasers a World Cup Final edge?
"A NEW national anthem?" asks the Independent.
There are pictures of the England rugby team - rugby: the nation's quadrennial national sport - singing in the changing room. What they are singing is, as we've noted, Kenny Rogers' seminal rugby song The Gambler.
Do Kenny's balls hang low, do they dangle to and fro? We know not. And do not care to know.
What we know is that the England rugby team are being inspired to victory and derring-do by a song about poker.
That poker should be all things to all men is no shock to us. And though commendable - and the England rugby team may experience a frisson of excitement at winning their pot - there is little better than holding a Big Slick and going on to win an even bigger pot.
Then you can sing-along with Kenny all night long. And if the pots big enough, you can hire him to sing for the entire weekend...
As the rugby boys sing manfully in the showers: "You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold em..."
