AS you know, the Elgin Courier News has been "the voice of the northern Fox Valley" for some years. And reading today's issue, we happen upon news of Poker pro Antonio Esfandiari, currently featuring on High Stakes Poker.

Esfandiari is known as 'The Magician on the tournament circuit because he sued to be a, er, magician.

Is being magician conducive with being a poker player? The hand is quicker than the eye, and all that? Mr Esfandiari is a paragon of fair play, but what reaction would you give to a man who arrived at table and pulled an Ace of Spades from your left nostril?

Would you up the ante, or run?

Mr Esfandiari's blog is found at www.alwaysbluff.com.

As for today's featured player, he became the "youngest player to win more than $1 million in a poker tournament with his victory in the 2004 L.A. Poker Classic Championship...His tournament winnings now exceed $2.7 million."

Says Esfandiari: "Comparing High Stakes Poker to tournaments is like comparing rugby to table tennis. It's not even close. The strategy and tools are so different."

Although neither games features a white rabbit...
